As the curtains came down in Bangkok it was clear that there is still a gulf between the positions of developed (Annex I) and developing countries. That gap needs to be closed quickly if Africa and the other vulnerable regions are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. There can be no room for grandstanding when the risk is so stark. It might help to bear in mind that not only is climate change a global issue, it is also regional, national and local. Failure in Copenhagen will ruin political and economic lives of millions. This is time to provide leadership.
